Connection Speeds

Some activities such as viewing slide shows, PowerPoint presentations or large pdf files may present difficulties for users with dial-up connections. Read the Documents section for alternative viewing methods.

Viewing Documents

PDF

Most documents availabe on this website are PDF format and require Adobe Reader to view and print. If you do not have Adobe Reader installed on your computer, you can download a free copy.

To view PDF documents, click on the link and the document will open in a new window. You can print the document from this window by clicking on the Print icon on the browser toolbar.

Each PDF document has the size in kilo-bytes ( KB) listed next to it. Depending on the speed of your internet connection it may be more time effective to download the document for local viewing rather than waiting for it to load into your browser. To download the PDF document to your computer, right-click on the link and select Save from the shortcut menu.

PPT

PPT files are PowerPoint presentations. Microsoft PowerPoint is required to view these files. The web page will provide appropriate instructions for your type of browser.

Netscape users will be prompted to download the file to their computer. After the download is complete , you must open the downloaded file using PowerPoint.

Internet Explorer (newer versions only) users can view presentations in their browser. Internet Explorer users who prefer to download the file for local viewing may right-click on the link and select Save from the shortcut menu.

Slide Shows

Users with high-speed connections should not encounter difficulties viewing slide shows. A brief delay at the start may occur for very large shows or if transmission on the Internet is conjested.

Downloading of pictures may take several minutes on dial-up connections. We suggest users with a dial-up connection initiate the slide show and then minimize the slide show window. This allows you to continue surfing while pictures are downloading. You can restore the slide show window and view the slide show normally after all pictures have downloaded.
