CESBA receives core funding from the Literacy & Basic Skills section of the Workplace Preparation Branch of MTCU to provide the following services:

• Enhancing communication between the school board LBS and MTCU.
• Providing informed advice to government.
• Supporting government initiatives.
• Coordinating and managing literacy development projects.
• Educating the public and key stakeholders on the nature and extent of the literacy needs of Ontario adults.
• Coordinating and conducting research and analysis of key literacy issues as well as promoting best practices and disseminating research results.
