Spring Pre-conference 2008


The CESBA Spring Pre-Conference 2008 will be held in Niagara Falls, at the Fallsview Hilton, on April 23. So far, we have scheduled the LBS Manager’s Day, as well as a day dedicated to les affaires francophone. Details on these two events are available by following the links above, which.

As well, we are planning a day for Co-operative Education (Summer, Night and Alternative) as well as an ESL Coordinators’ Day. We are awaiting further word on possible funding for these two events. When more information becomes available, we will e-mail members, as well as posting it here.


Fall Pre-conference 2007

The Fall Pre-Conference for this year was held in its usual quarters in the Courtyard Marriott in Toronto. Attendees appreciated the Christmas lights decorating Toronto’s downtown, as well as the chance to network and learn from their colleagues and the presenters.

Six sessions were held this year:

  4. A Leadership Primer
  5. PSW Day
  6. Adolescent Alternative Education Day

Spring Pre-conference 2007

The Spring 2007 Pre-Conference was held at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Toronto on Wednesday, April 18. 180 attendees enjoyed one of the four sessions:

2007 Pre-Conference
  1. The LBS Managers’ Day, sponsored by MTCU, explored Employment Ontario and CIPMS, as well as Flexible and Distance Learning, Accessibility, and Academic Upgrading. Also included was an update from MTCU and round table discussions.
  2. The ESL Coordinators’ Day, sponsored by MCI, involved discussion of best practices, responding to gaps in ESL delivery.
  3. The Adolescent Alternative Education Day included networking with colleagues, a roundtable dialogue, and best practices discussions on assessment & evaluation, credit recovery, MPLAR, student success and co-op.
  4. The Co-op Principals’ Day was sponsored by EDU. It explored best practices in summer, night school and after school co-op. This year, it also included a Promo Marketplace – an exchange of materials for continuing ed co-op.

Fall Pre-Conference 2006

Harold and Jim

This year’s Fall Pre-conference was a very successful event, with almost 200 attendees in the six sessions. It was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in Toronto, on Dec 5/06.

The six events were:

  1. A “Leadership Primer” for superintendents and principals newly appointed to Adult and Continuing Education for delegates in their first or second year administrating adult or cont. ed. programs. The day consisted of an expert panel, presentations on the new labour market development agreement, funding mechanisms, staffing and marketing and a round table dialogue.
  2. The LBS Manager’s Day, funded by MTCU, with presentations on effective practices for documenting CIPMS and demonstrating agency capacity and literacy, as well as an update from MTCU and a special presentation on Academic Upgrading partnerships.
  3. The Adolescent Alternative Education Day opened with a keynote address from Grant Clarke, the Director of the Program and Policy Branch of the Ministry of Education. Best practice dialogue addressed assessment and evaluation, credit recovery, MPLAR and Student Success in Alt Ed settings.
  4. The Personal Support Worker Day for PSW program administrators and practitioners provided a full day including PSW practicum policies, program standards, strategies to respond to unacceptable student behaviour as well as updates on HPRAC regulations, etc.
  5. For boards delivering FSL programming, a session on le program de Français langue seconde was provided offering facilitated dialogue on issues unique to this delivery. This day was funded by the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.
  6. An ESL Coordinators’ Day, funded by the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, included an MCI Update, as well as an opportunity for school board administrators to meet and share best practices.
