The CESBA Fall 2009 Conference was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel on Thursday and Friday, Dec 3 & 4, with the Pre-Conference Day on Wednesday, Dec 2. (For more information on the Pre-Conference Day, see the Pre-Conference page.) There were 9 networking sessions and 30 workshops on Thursday and Friday. This year’s conference theme was The Upside of the Downturn, a timely subject with the increase in need for Adult Education over the last year. This year’s Fall Conference saw a record number of attendees, with 286 attendees on the Thursday and Friday. The keynote speaker on Thursday is the Hon. Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Education of Ontario. As well, Francois Mathieu spoke on Compassion Fatigue, and Marc Lachance from Canada Council on Learning, updated us on Canadian Employment Statistics. The CESBA Fall Conference 2008 took place at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Toronto. The pre-conference was held at the Courtyard by Marriott on Wed. Dec 3, while the conference followed at the same site on the following two days (Thursday and Friday, Dec 4/5). The theme of this year’s conference was Partnerships, Pathways and Promising Practices in Adult, Alternative and Continuing Education. The conference will involved the usual eight networking sessions and 30 workshops. The guest speakers were Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Education, and Dr. Robert Rosewell. The conference was very successful, with 255 people attending one or both days of the conference. Fall Conference 2007CESBA’s Fall Conference 2007 took place at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel on Thursday and Friday, Dec 6 and 7. The theme of this year’s conference was Exploring Your Potential. This year, as in the past, we offered 8 networking sessions and 30 workshops. Keynote speakers were the Hon. Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Education, and Ruth Sirman, from CanMediate. In total, 251 delegates attended the conference, and by all accounts had an enjoyable and enlightening time. View a slide show of some of the conference highlights. The following presentations were made available by their presenters, and may be viewed by following the links: Fall Conference 2006The CESBA Fall 2006 Conference was held at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in downtown Toronto on Wed, Dec 5 and Thurs, Dec 6. It was a very successful conference, recording the largest number of delegates in attendance in the history of our conference. The Honourable Kathleen Wynne, Minister of Education, was the opening keynote speaker. Minister Wynne identified new investment funding of two million dollars to be directed at creating and providing supports for adult education in Ontario. The Honourable Mike Colle, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, was the closing keynote speaker and announced the availability of pilot funding for school boards for ESL/FLS projects. The luncheon speaker on Wednesday was Dr. Charles Ungerleider, Director of the Research and Knowledge Mobilization Unit of the Canadian Council on Learning, who spoke on adult education from a national perspective. The CESBA Fall 2006 Pre-conference was held on the Tuesday. View information on the pre-conference. The CESBA Fall 2005 Conference, held at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel in Toronto, had the theme The Changing Landscape: New Ideas - New Directions. The conference was a tremendous success, with more than 220 attending the main conference, and over 180 at the pre-conference workshops.
The Hon. Gerard Kennedy, Minister of Education, presented the opening keynote address on Thursday, Dec. 8. The Hon. James K. Bartleman, Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario, spoke at the Thursday lunch. The closing address, on Friday, was provided by the Hon. Mike Colle, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.
